Global Jonathan Edwards Congress 2020 Call for Papers

It is with great pleasure that we hereby send you the Call for Papers for the Global Jonathan Edwards Congress 2020 from Monday 24 August to Friday 28 August, 2020. This congress will be organized by the Jonathan Edwards Center Benelux, headquartered at the Evangelische Theologische Faculteit, Leuven, in cooperation with the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Jonathan Edwards Center, Yale University.

 

The theme of this congress is “Rationality and Spirituality: Retrieving Jonathan Edwards for Understanding Religion and Spirituality in Human Experience Today.” The congress seeks to create academic space for a multidisciplinary discussion that retrieves and leverages the robust nature of Edwards’s insights into a religious experience that is both rational and spiritual for the benefit of the humanities, church, and society.

"Yale and the International Jonathan Edwards" (October 2-4, 2019 at Yale University Divinity School, Old Refectory, and Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library) has successfully ended with 140 participants, 20 paper presentations and 2 keynote speeches (by George M. Marsden and Mark A. Noll).  A plenary session photo is attached hereunder.

Anri Morimoto, Director of JEC Japan, presented "The Passions and the Interests: An Edwardsean Understanding of Populism."

The Yale Center for Faith & Culture seeks submissions of up to 4,000 words that respond to questions concerning flourishing (“the good life”) and joy.

All current degree-seeking masters and doctoral students at accredited institutions are eligible.

Papers from the 2016 Tokyo Conference are up on the Yale Online Journal.
Professor Shitsuyo Masui and Professor Masatake Okubo are featured among the five papers selected, along with the Preface by Director Anri Morimoto.

The Jonathan Edwards Center at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) sponsors an annual paper competition for graduate students. Papers must focus on Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758), his contexts, or his legacies, and must be written mainly in English. The winner will receive a cash prize of $1,000 (U.S.) and guaranteed publication in Jonathan Edwards Studies. Submissions are due by May 15, 2017. The winners will be announced by August 1.
