The Jonathan Edwards Center Japan (JEC Japan) is pleased to announce that it will host an international conference on the verdant campus of International Christian University (ICU), Tokyo, March 26-27, 2016.

Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) is America’s premier theologian whose profound thoughts have been the source of inspiration and the subject of research for many across cultural boundaries. The geographical center of Edwards studies is the Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale University, with Global Centers located in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, and South Africa. JEC Japan is the the first Global Center in Asia.

The theme of the conference will be “The Transcultural Impact of Jonathan Edwards,” though a broad range of topics not limited to the overall theme are welcome.

Edwards himself was deeply involved in activities beyond British and American contexts, and his influence was recognized even among intellectual leaders of modern Japan like Niijima Jo (Joseph Hardy Neesima, 1843-1890, see his his autograph and Ex Libris on the 1868 Dwight Edition).

Participants are expected to arrive by the evening of March 25th for registration and reception. For those coming from overseas, accommodation is available in the Dialogue House, an on-campus lodging facility, for 3 nights from March 25th to 27th.

All presentations and discussions will be conducted in English and open to public. We would like to invite scholars, researchers, educators, ministers, and students who are interested in Jonathan Edwards and early American studies.
